We recommend arriving in advance, our volunteers will be waiting for you at the meeting point. Access on a first-come, first-served basis, until full capacity is reached.
From its origin until the great demographic explosion that filled the historic city in the nineteenth century, the center of Malaga was composed mostly of single-family homes. Many of them, inherited from the best Mediterranean tradition, were configured around a courtyard, on which the life of the family that lived there revolved.
The courtyard allows us to discover the lives and customs of its neighbors. So it would be absurd to recover the houses of the old town without getting to understand them, for the spatial and architectural richness they treasure.
The visit aims to reencounter a not so distant way of life, which is not at all alien to us, and how our courtyards have been adapting to social changes without losing their functional and representative capacity.
Its recovery and better knowledge allow us to carry out better architectural works, since a well-proportioned courtyard significantly qualifies the private space in which we develop our lives.
All this will be explained from some examples of rehabilitation of popular housing in the historic city that have very unique courtyards, and that have been recovered in recent years for your enjoyment.
