"Mediterranean architecture for Picasso, a Renaissance palace for the Museum."

At the beginning of the 1990s, the idea of installing a museum dedicated to Picasso in Malaga began to be considered, which led to the acquisition of the Buenavista Palace as its headquarters. Since then, a long and laborious process of successive enlargements began with the acquisition of houses adjoining the Palace with the aim of completing the museum.

a museum program that, in addition to the purely exhibition program, would include other complementary activities, until reaching the current configuration.

Throughout this process we have worked with a close relationship between the architectural project and the museum project, that is, between the container and the content. The final result is a mixture of historic buildings and new buildings that are inserted into the urban fabric, regenerating a part of the city that was in a state of ruin.

With its complementary activities, especially lectures, concerts and activities for schoolchildren, the Museum actively collaborates in the cultural environment of the city.
