The archaeological site of Funerary Mosques of Malaga preserves two funerary mosques and a mausoleum from the Almohad period, whose construction took place in succession between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.

The mosques are unique in their kind in al-Andalus. They were discovered at the beginning of the 90's of the last century, when for the first time the use of these buildings as burial enclosures within a public cemetery was confirmed. They were built with simple materials, masonry walls and tapial plastered with ochre stucco, without any type of foundation. It is the simplest type of Andalusian mosque. The most remarkable feature of its construction, and that differentiates them from the mosques dedicated to prayer, is the lack of an access door and the lack of roof, since the walls have a height of 1 m and end in a gable end, a feature that is explained in accordance with the doctrine of not building on the tombs.

On the other hand, the mausoleum is also built with masonry walls. In contrast to the simplicity of the mosques, it is carefully decorated in ochre-colored stucco and distributed in panels with various motifs: cruciforms, eight-pointed stars, tree of life, palmettes and sebka board.

The uniqueness and importance of these structures in the Andalusian world, especially the mosques, led to their preservation in situ and to the Junta de Andalucía acquiring the first floor of the residential building in which they are located.
