A Preview of the Museo del Relax (1st shift)

After the success of the last edition, the multifaceted artist Diego Santos returns to Open House. On this occasion, he accompanies us on a tour of six buildings that were decisive in the modernization of architecture in Malaga.
The creator of the legendary "Relax Style" guides us on a walking tour that begins at the 1964 Stella Maris Church, a markedly brutalist functionalist building designed by architect José María García de Paredes Barreda.
The tour continues with the rationalism and neo-Mudejar fantasy with which architects Manuel Cabanyes Mata and Juan Jaúregui Briales conceived the 1956 La Equitativa building.
A stone's throw away, we see the Hotel Málaga Palacio, from 1957, also by Jáuregui Briales, where Diego reveals the values of one of the landmarks of the modern movement in the city.
Nearby, the Garaje Catedral, from 1970, denotes the Mendelsonian inspiration of the architect José Luis Esteve Balzola.
The tour continues to admire the Deco rationalism with neo-Mudejar resonances of the Housing Building at number 19 Cistercian Street, 1930, by the architect Antonio Palacios, a pioneer among the "precursors of relaxation".
Our path ends at the Eduardo Ocón auditorium, by architects Antonio García Garrido and Eduardo Ramos Guerbos, a daring and a nod to Eero Saarinen in the purest sixties style.
This route reveals the amalgam of styles that have contributed to the remarkable modern heritage that Malaga offers in dialogue with the historical environment.
