Restoration of the old San Andrés Convent

The rehabilitation of the former Convent of San Andrés in the Perchel neighborhood of Malaga has been aimed at both rescuing from the ruins to which it had been relegated a fragment of the past that is memory of the place where it is located, recovering its original significance, and establishing new links with the citizenship by housing cultural institutions and activities in it.

Based on the exhaustive knowledge of the original conditions of the building and its evolution over time, we proceeded to the restoration and use of all the original elements of heritage significance, recovering those missing parts of which there is documentary evidence of their original state or by assimilation to the existing ones. Contemporary elements not attributable to original conventual structures were eliminated, adjusting the ground levels to the original levels in the entire area of action according to the data of the archaeological research carried out. These objectives had to be made compatible with the requirements of use, stability, accessibility, facilities and endowments required for the intended uses without neglecting the proposed cultural objectives.
