"The great rationalist Nave as a locomotive of contemporary art".

In 1938 a competition was called, with a budget of 900,000 pts, to which 12 projects were presented, being chosen the one of Gutiérrez Soto, with the title AVIACION. The final project is dated 1939 and in this work he has suppressed the characteristics of the "boat style", so prolific in previous years.

It has two floors, terraces and a basement floor with chambers and an air-raid shelter, and is defined by straight lines and cubic volumes. On the first floor, whose exterior is crossed by the loading docks, the sales facilities are distributed; the main floor is structured as a trading floor, while on the upper floor, and occupying only part of the floor, stands the tower that dominates the building. The auxiliary and complementary services, such as the bar, are located on the access level, in the front part that forms the narrowest and most symbolic façade.

It was inaugurated in 1942, used as a wholesale market until the opening of Mercamalaga and after more than 20 years of abandonment, in 2002 the restoration works were completed to adapt it to the use of Contemporary Art Center.
